The Strymon El Capistan dTape Echo brings the warmth, movement, and wonderfully imperfect character of a real tape echo into a pedalboard-friendly format. Instead of focusing on recreating one particular machine, it gives you three different tape machine styles to work with, covering fixed-head, multi-head, and sliding-head designs. From vintage-style echoes with natural saturation and movement to more experimental sounds, the Time, Mix, Tape Age, Repeats, Wow & Flutter, and Spring controls make it easy to shape the character of the delay around your playing.

There is a lot more hiding beneath the surface, too. Holding both footswitches gives you access to secondary controls for Tape Crinkle, Tape Bias, Low-end Contour, and a Boost/Cut, letting you fine-tune everything from subtle warmth to seriously worn-in tape character. Each tape machine style also offers three operating modes, including different delay ranges, head selections, and sound-on-sound looping possibilities. An expression pedal can control any parameter on the fly, while an optional footswitch can recall your favorite settings when you need hands-free access during a performance.

The El Capistan dTape Echo also brings some meaningful upgrades under the hood, including a JFET input for a more responsive, dynamic playing feel and a more powerful ARM DSP chip for improved processing and efficiency. Mono or stereo operation can be selected from the rear panel, and you can choose between true bypass and trails operation depending on how you want the pedal to behave in your rig. Whether you're after classic tape-style ambience, warbly vintage repeats, looping textures, or something that sounds like it came from a machine that's been running for decades, the El Capistan puts an impressive amount of tape-echo character at your feet.
