When a guitarist needs to add grit, warmth, and extra push without burying the character of the guitar and amplifier underneath excessive gain, this used MXR M66S Classic Overdrive offers a straightforward approach to one of the pedalboard's most useful effects. Built around the familiar idea of using overdrive to recreate the response of a driven amplifier, the Classic Overdrive can serve as anything from a subtle boost to a source of creamy crunch and sustain. Its compact MXR format and simple three-knob layout keep the emphasis on quickly finding a usable sound rather than navigating unnecessary features.

Output, Tone, and Gain controls give the M66S enough range to fill several roles within a rig. Lower Gain settings can add light breakup or push an already driven amplifier harder, while increasing Gain produces a thicker, more harmonically saturated overdrive suitable for blues, classic rock, country, alternative, and straightforward rock rhythm and lead work. The Tone control provides additional control over the pedal's overall voicing, while Output makes it easy to balance levels or add extra signal to the front end of an amplifier. A rugged die-cast enclosure is designed for regular stage use, and the pedal can be powered from either a 9V battery or a compatible Dunlop AC adapter.
