The Martin Special 18-Style D-12F Sinker Mahogany is an extremely limited Custom Shop creation, with only 27 of these rare instruments ever produced. Built to echo the essence of Martin’s iconic Style 18 dreadnoughts while offering the unique tonal character of sinker mahogany, this guitar pairs tradition with rarity. The 12-fret dreadnought design provides a deeper, more resonant voice with enhanced bass response, while the slotted headstock and vintage-inspired 1935 Sunburst finish lend an unmistakably classic aesthetic.
Its Adirondack spruce top is braced with Golden Era scalloped Adirondack braces, ensuring powerful projection and dynamic range. Forged from salvaged river wood, the sinker mahogany back and sides deliver warmth and midrange depth, creating a tonal blend that’s rich, articulate, and perfectly balanced for fingerstyle, flatpicking, and vocal accompaniment alike. With its Modified V neck profile, bone nut and saddle, and premium ebony fingerboard and bridge, this instrument offers not only exceptional playability but also long-lasting stability.
Whether as a performance workhorse or a collector’s treasure, the D-12F Sinker Mahogany represents Martin craftsmanship at its highest level — and it’s available in excellent used condition at Haggerty’s Music. Few guitars embody both heritage and rarity this strongly, making it a remarkable addition for players who value both tone and history.
