The Martin D-18 has long been one of the most respected and recorded dreadnoughts in acoustic music history, prized for its powerful projection, woody clarity, and no-nonsense mahogany warmth. First introduced in the 1930s, the D-18 became a cornerstone of bluegrass, folk, and Americana, evolving through the decades while remaining a benchmark for flatpickers and singer-songwriters alike. The Molly Tuttle Signature D-18 draws direct inspiration from Molly’s own cherished 1943 example, capturing the spirit of Martin’s golden-era craftsmanship while incorporating artist-driven refinements.
Molly Tuttle is widely recognized as one of the most influential acoustic guitarists of her generation, known for redefining flatpicking technique while seamlessly blending bluegrass tradition with modern songwriting and genre-crossing creativity. A Grammy-winning artist and groundbreaking player, Molly’s touch demands an instrument that delivers speed, balance, and articulation without sacrificing depth. This signature model reflects her vision with a slim 1-11/16" nut width favored by bluegrass players, an authentic 1940s-style neck carve, and rear-shifted scalloped bracing that enhances responsiveness and headroom.
Tonally, the D-18 Molly Tuttle Signature delivers a focused, punchy low end, clear and dry midrange, and crisp trebles that cut effortlessly through an ensemble. It excels in bluegrass, folk, roots, and acoustic Americana, but is equally at home in solo performance or recording environments where note separation and dynamic range matter most. Subtle custom touches — moon phase fingerboard inlays, a silver headplate logo, oval tuner buttons, and a vintage sunburst top — add personality without distracting from the guitar’s classic aesthetic. Paired with a vintage-style molded hardshell case and available now at Haggerty’s Music, this is a professional-grade instrument built to honor tradition while pushing acoustic music forward.
