The Martin D-13E Retro is a testament to the evolution of one of the most iconic acoustic body styles in history. Drawing on Martin’s deep heritage, this dreadnought is built for players who crave the familiar power and depth of a full-size guitar but want a modern edge in tone and playability. Its solid spruce top and solid black walnut back and sides give it a rich tonal palette — clear and balanced with a touch of warmth and natural compression that lends itself beautifully to strumming, flatpicking, and vocal accompaniment. The gloss finish enhances the natural grain of the wood while adding resonance and sustain.

Walnut, sometimes called “Pennsylvania Rosewood,” bridges the tonal gap between rosewood and mahogany — delivering the deep lows of rosewood with the focused mids of mahogany. Combined with scalloped X-bracing, the D-13E produces bold projection and a harmonically complex sound that remains articulate even when pushed.
