Martin’s Style 18 guitars have long been celebrated for their rootsy simplicity, tonal balance, and workhorse reliability. Dating back to the 19th century, the Style 18 formula — spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and clean appointments — has endured for generations of musicians across every genre. This Custom Shop 000-18 Golden Era 1937 is a love letter to that legacy, hand-crafted with vintage-spec materials and construction techniques that recall the golden age of American acoustic guitar making.
This model features a short-scale 000 body, prized for its articulate, mid-forward tone and supreme comfort, especially for fingerstyle players or singer-songwriters. The Adirondack spruce top is paired with scalloped Golden Era-style 1/4” bracing, giving it a wide dynamic range with fast attack, shimmering trebles, and woody low-end response. The solid quilted mahogany back and sides add warmth and clarity, while the fossilized ivory nut, ebony bridge and fingerboard, and Waverly open-gear tuners lend old-world charm and performance. The 1935 Sunburst finish and Old Style 18 abalone dot inlays further connect this guitar to its pre-war ancestry, both visually and sonically.
Tonally, this guitar is balanced, dry, and responsive — with just the right amount of air. Whether you’re recording, writing, or performing live, its quick, articulate response and sweet overtones make it an inspiring partner. It’s equally at home under a light fingerstyle touch or a more assertive flatpick approach. For players drawn to Martin’s historic voice and timeless playability, this custom 000-18 offers a refined and resonant window into the past. Available now at Haggerty’s Music, this Custom Shop acoustic comes with its original hardshell case.
