A truly exceptional instrument crafted for the discerning classical guitarist, the José Marques Doubletop Classical Guitar blends modern innovation with deep-rooted tradition — and it’s available now at Haggerty’s Music. Built by hand in Portugal by luthier José Marques, this concert-grade guitar represents the cutting edge of classical guitar design. Marques' background in carpentry work as a teenager and his highly sought-after apprenticeship under Portuguese master luthier Daniel Luz laid the groundwork for his meticulous craftsmanship. Drawing inspiration from revered builders like Antonio de Torres, Hermann Hauser, and Gernot Wagner, Marques has become internationally recognized for his work with “double top” construction — a technique that combines power, responsiveness, and tonal integrity in a way few solid tops can match.
This model features Nomex double-top construction, using a red cedar outer layer over a honeycomb-core structure for maximum strength-to-weight efficiency. This not only provides superb projection and volume but also enables delicate responsiveness and tonal color. The result is a guitar capable of remarkable dynamic range — ideal for concert performers, recording artists, and serious students alike. With exotic ebony back and sides, an African mahogany neck, and French polish finish, this instrument delivers not only premium sound, but also a refined and luxurious aesthetic. Every José Marques guitar is a labor of devotion, and this one is no exception. Included is a hardshell case, certificate of authenticity, and maintenance guide — ready for the world stage or your most inspired personal playing.

How accurate are your condition descriptions?
