When a guitarist wants to channel the uncompromising rhythm attack that helped define American thrash metal, the Jackson Legend Series Limited Edition Scott Ian Signature RR22 reaches directly back to one of the instruments at the center of that history. As co-founder and rhythm guitarist of Anthrax, Scott Ian helped establish the aggressive, tightly controlled guitar style that became a defining element of the genre. His custom early-1980s Jackson Rhoads, nicknamed the “NOT” Rhoads for its unmistakable body graphics, became closely associated with Anthrax's formative recording and touring years. This limited-edition recreation captures that instrument in Pearl White with its distinctive front and side graphic.
The RR22's construction is purpose-built for the speed, precision, and sustain associated with Ian's playing. An alder Rhoads body surrounds a three-piece maple neck-through structure reinforced with graphite, creating a continuous foundation through the instrument while maintaining the fast feel expected from a performance-oriented Jackson. Its ebony fingerboard moves from a 12" to 16" compound radius, becoming progressively flatter as the player moves toward the upper register, while 22 jumbo frets, pearloid sharkfin inlays, and a 25.5" scale make the guitar particularly well suited to forceful rhythm work, fast leads, heavy riffing, and aggressive bends.
Electronics are appropriately direct: a single Seymour Duncan JB TB-4 bridge humbucker feeds a single volume control with no pickup selector or secondary controls. The result is a focused platform for hard rock, thrash, traditional heavy metal, punk, and other high-gain styles, with the JB delivering the strong midrange presence, attack, and output needed for articulate distorted rhythm tones and cutting leads. A Floyd Rose 1000 Series double-locking tremolo handles expressive pitch work, while the locking nut, sealed Jackson tuners, chrome hardware, and pointed six-in-line headstock complete a guitar that celebrates both Scott Ian's legacy and the stripped-down, purpose-driven character of his original “NOT” Rhoads. Available now at Haggerty’s Music.
