Some signature guitars capture more than an artist's specifications; they preserve a particular era of playing, sound, and identity. The Jackson Legend Series Limited Edition Marty Friedman Kelly KE-1 brings back Friedman’s distinctive late-'90s signature model, an instrument that became a scarce and highly sought-after piece after its original limited run. Recreated from the former Megadeath guitarist’s personal axe, the new KE-1 retains the aggressive Kelly silhouette, stark Gloss Black presentation, white body-side "1" marking, and purposefully stripped-down electronics that defined Friedman's original.
The KE-1 reflects the focused approach of a guitarist celebrated for combining metal intensity with highly melodic, unconventional lead work. Its neck-through construction and ebony fingerboard create a performance-oriented foundation suited to fast passages, wide bends, intricate phrasing, and sustained lead lines, while the compound-radius playing surface becomes increasingly accommodating as the player moves toward the upper register. The Kahler 7330 fixed bridge reinforces the guitar's no-nonsense character with a stable platform for players who value tuning consistency and a direct response. Whether used for thrash, technical metal, melodic metal, hard rock, or instrumental lead work, the KE-1 is built around precision and immediacy rather than unnecessary complexity.
That philosophy is clearest in the electronics: one Seymour Duncan JB TB-4 bridge humbucker and one volume control. The JB is known for a strong, articulate voice that pairs naturally with driven amplifiers, giving rhythm work the definition needed for complex riffs while allowing lead lines and harmonics to cut through a dense mix. There are no additional pickups or switching options to distract from the guitar's central purpose; the player's hands, amplifier, and technique do the rest. For longtime Marty Friedman fans, Jackson collectors, or guitarists who simply appreciate a focused high-performance instrument, the Legend Series KE-1 makes one of Jackson's memorable artist designs accessible again without losing the visual attitude and straightforward functionality of the original. Available now at Haggerty’s Music.
