Few bassists have pushed the boundaries of their instrument as far as Steve Di Giorgio. Known for his pioneering fretless work in metal bands like Death, Testament, and Sadus, Di Giorgio has become synonymous with expressive, virtuosic playing in some of the most technically demanding genres. The Ibanez SDGB1-DMT Signature Fretless Bass is designed in close collaboration with the artist to deliver everything a modern metal bassist needs — articulation, attack, clarity, and a wide palette of tonal flexibility — all in a stunning and road-ready package.
Built for precision and expression, this bass features a 9-piece Maple/Bubinga/Panga Panga neck with neck-through construction for exceptional sustain and high-register access. The Ebonol fretless fingerboard responds quickly and delivers a tight, clear voice with smooth glides and articulate phrasing — ideal for players who blend melodic playing with heavy, aggressive rhythm work. The Nordstrand Big Single pickups are tailored to Steve’s tone, offering a powerful single-coil growl with rich harmonic content and bold clarity. Combined with the Vari-mid 3-band EQ and passive tone control, players can dial in everything from deep, earthy grooves to snarling lead runs.
Whether you’re holding down brutal low end in a progressive death metal mix or exploring melodic phrasing in fusion or jazz, the SDGB1-DMT delivers unmatched versatility for fretless players. With its bold Dark Moss Burst finish and no-nonsense tonewood selection, it’s not just a signature model — it’s a true professional’s tool designed for peak performance on the heaviest stages. Available right now at Haggerty’s Music.
