The Gibson J-45 Special Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar in Ebony Satin carries forward a legacy that began in 1942, when the original J-45 earned its reputation as “The Workhorse.” Known for its no-nonsense simplicity and understated elegance, this model has become one of the most recorded acoustic guitars in history—and Gibson’s best-selling acoustic of all time. The J-45 Special captures that same spirit, offering players a genuine USA-built Gibson experience at an approachable price, and it’s available now at Haggerty’s Music.
Handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana by Gibson’s expert luthiers, this guitar features a round shoulder body built from solid mahogany back and sides paired with a solid Sitka spruce top. Traditional scalloped X-bracing enhances resonance and responsiveness, producing a warm, balanced tone with impressive dynamic range. Whether you’re strumming full chords or picking intricate lines, the J-45 Special adapts beautifully across genres, delivering a sound that feels both timeless and alive.
Designed with comfort and performance in mind, the slightly thinner “concert depth” body offers a leaner low end that sits perfectly in a mix while making the guitar easier to hold for long sessions. The utile neck is joined with a compound dovetail joint using hot hide glue, ensuring excellent tonal transfer and durability. Its SlimTaper profile feels fast and comfortable in the hand, while the rosewood fretboard with a 12-inch radius, 20 frets, and classic mother-of-pearl dot inlays provides a smooth and familiar playing surface.
From the TUSQ saddle, nut, and bridge pins to the dependable Grover Rotomatic tuners, every detail is built for stability and consistency. Equipped with an L.R. Baggs Element Bronze under-saddle pickup and soundhole-mounted volume control, the J-45 Special is ready for studio sessions or live performances at a moment’s notice. Complete with a premium soft shell case, this is a guitar that’s built to go wherever your music takes you—ready and waiting at Haggerty’s Music.

Yes. Every guitar that leaves our store has been professionally inspected, set up, and signed off by the technician who worked on it. You will find a signed checklist inside the box when your order arrives.
How accurate are your condition descriptions?
We treat condition grading as a contractual promise, not an approximation. When we list something as excellent, that reflects a specific, consistent standard we apply across every instrument.
