The Gibson Custom 1959 ES-355 Gary Clark Jr. Signature captures the sound, feel, and visual authority of an artist whose playing bridges blues tradition and modern expression. Inspired by the moment Clark first saw B.B. King perform with an ES-355, this guitar has become his go-to instrument, shaping the fiery, dynamic tones heard on stages around the world. Finished in a striking Cobra Burst and built in close collaboration with Clark himself, it reflects his bold musical identity while honoring one of Gibson’s most prestigious semi-hollow designs.

At its core is a classic ES-355 three-ply maple/poplar/maple body with a figured maple outer layer, delivering a focused, articulate response with the airy complexity semi-hollows are known for. The mahogany neck is carved into a ’50s Rounded Medium C profile that feels substantial yet comfortable, paired with a bound ebony fingerboard for a smooth, authoritative playing surface. Whether digging into soulful bends or driving aggressive rhythm parts, the guitar responds with clarity, sustain, and control.

Tonally, a pair of unpotted Custombuckers with Alnico 3 magnets provide rich harmonic depth and dynamic sensitivity, capturing everything from warm, vocal cleans to raw, overdriven bite. The mono Varitone circuit adds an extra layer of tonal flexibility, allowing players to shape midrange character and texture on the fly. High-quality components throughout, including CTS pots, paper-in-oil capacitors, and a Switchcraft toggle, ensure the instrument feels alive and responsive at every setting.

Visually and mechanically, this ES-355 is pure Gibson Custom Shop craftsmanship. Multi-ply binding, mother-of-pearl block inlays, the split-diamond headstock inlay, and VOS nickel hardware give it an unmistakably upscale presence, while the Bigsby B7 vibrato adds expressive nuance without sacrificing stability. Limited to just 100 guitars worldwide and handcrafted by Gibson Custom Shop and Murphy Lab artisans in Nashville, this is a rare and deeply personal instrument.
