The Gibson Custom Shop Limited Edition 1957 Les Paul Standard Reissue Murphy Lab brings that experience into the present with historically inspired construction, a distinctive Mustard Gold finish, and the most intensive aging treatment offered by the Murphy Lab. Part of the Gibson Custom Limited Edition Collection, this 2026 model draws inspiration from decades of Made to Measure instruments and the craftsmanship of Gibson's Custom Shop in Nashville.

The 1957 Les Paul occupies an important place in Gibson history. By this point, the Les Paul had evolved from its early-'50s origins into the humbucker-equipped instrument that would help establish the template for some of the most coveted electric guitars ever made. This limited-edition reissue starts with a lightweight one-piece solid mahogany body and two-piece plain maple top, with no weight relief to alter the traditional construction. The Mustard Gold color gives that familiar formula a distinctive identity, while the Murphy Lab Ultra Heavy Aged nitrocellulose lacquer treatment recreates the extensive checking, softened edges, worn surfaces, and accumulated playing wear expected from an instrument that has spent decades being played rather than stored away.

That vintage-inspired experience continues through a solid mahogany neck shaped to Gibson's substantial 1950s Chunky D profile. A long neck tenon joins the neck to the body, while the rosewood fingerboard features cellulose trapezoid inlays, 22 Historic narrow-tall frets, and a 12" radius. A 24.75" scale and period-inspired nylon nut complete a playing platform designed to feel equally at home beneath open-position chords, wide blues bends, forceful rhythm work, and expressive lead playing.

Its pair of unpotted, underwound Custombucker Alnico 3 humbuckers gives this '57 Reissue a particularly nuanced take on classic Gibson tone. Inspired by early Patent Applied For-era humbuckers with fewer turns of wire around the bobbins, these pickups are designed to emphasize openness, clarity, sweetness, and dynamic response while retaining the warmth and harmonic complexity associated with a great vintage-style Les Paul. The neck pickup can move from rounded cleans to vocal lead tones, while the bridge offers definition and bite that develops into rich crunch as the amplifier is pushed. Two volume controls, two tone controls, and a three-way toggle preserve the traditional Les Paul layout, providing plenty of control without getting between the player and the guitar.

The supporting hardware completes the illusion of a heavily played Golden Age instrument. An ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge and Stop Bar tailpiece are joined by Kluson Deluxe tuners, gold Top Hat knobs, cream plastics, aged nickel hardware, and aged True Historic nickel pickup covers, all visually matched to the Murphy Lab treatment. The result is not simply a recreation of a 1957 Les Paul, but a distinctive interpretation of what such an instrument might feel like after a lifetime of music. With its Mustard Gold finish, Ultra Heavy Aged character, substantial '50s neck, and underwound Custombuckers, this Limited Edition Reissue offers players and collectors a highly individual expression of one of the most important periods in Les Paul history.
