The Gibson Custom Shop 1963 Dove Murphy Lab Light Aged Acoustic Guitar brings one of Gibson’s most iconic acoustic designs into the modern age with stunning authenticity — available now at Haggerty’s Music. First introduced in 1962, the Dove quickly became a favorite among legends like Tom Petty, Elvis Presley, John Mellencamp, and Alex Lifeson for its unmistakable tone and striking looks. This 1963 reissue from the Gibson Custom Shop, meticulously finished by the Murphy Lab, captures that heritage in a guitar that feels, plays, and sounds like a perfectly preserved vintage original. The Murphy Lab Light Aging process subtly simulates decades of gentle playwear, offering the broken-in feel of a true mid-century classic while maintaining the stability and craftsmanship of a new instrument.

Built with a thermally aged Sitka spruce top and flamed maple back and sides, the Dove’s tone is as bold as its look — articulate and loud, yet balanced and harmonically rich. Its 25.5" scale length and mahogany neck lend snap and clarity to each note, while the traditional scalloped X-bracing and hide glue construction produce vintage-like warmth and resonance. The rosewood bridge, adorned with twin mother-of-pearl doves, and the engraved Dove pickguard with vines and flowers complete its signature aesthetic. Paired with Kluson waffleback tuners, multi-ply binding, and a hand-aged nitrocellulose finish, this guitar embodies the craftsmanship that defines the Gibson Custom Shop.
