The Gibson Custom 1957 SJ-200 Murphy Lab revives one of the most legendary acoustics ever built—the “King of the Flat-Tops.” First introduced in 1937 and revered for its immense projection and lush tone, this faithfully recreated model channels the glory of its 1957 predecessor. With a thermally aged Sitka spruce top and AAA flamed maple back and sides, it delivers a balanced blend of warmth, clarity, and punch that defined generations of performers from country greats to rock icons.

Every curve and detail of this SJ-200 reflects Gibson’s Golden Era craftsmanship, from the scalloped X-bracing set with hide glue to the signature Super Jumbo silhouette that commands any room. The AAA two-piece maple neck with a walnut stringer and comfortable Round profile makes it a joy to play, while the 25.5” scale length enhances both resonance and articulation.

Aesthetic excellence meets tradition with ornate appointments that echo the original design. The rosewood fretboard is bound and crowned with mother-of-pearl graduated inlays, paired with a rosewood Four Bar Moustache bridge featuring pearl embellishments. The tortoise pickguard bears the timeless SJ-200 floral motif, and gold Gotoh tuners with Keystone buttons ensure reliable tuning and vintage authenticity.

Finished with Murphy Lab’s Light Aging process, this model exudes the vibe and character of a well-loved vintage treasure—subtly worn, richly resonant, and visually captivating. Complete with a period-correct 1950s Lifton hardshell case, the Gibson Custom 1957 SJ-200 Light Aged Dark Natural offers players and collectors alike the chance to experience an acoustic masterpiece steeped in history and tone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you set up every guitar before it ships?

Yes. Every guitar that leaves our store has been professionally inspected, set up, and signed off by the technician who worked on it. You will find a signed checklist inside the box when your order arrives.

How accurate are your condition descriptions?

We treat condition grading as a contractual promise, not an approximation. When we list something as excellent, that reflects a specific, consistent standard we apply across every instrument. We encourage you to call us before purchasing if you want a detailed in-hand description of any specific guitar.

Can I call and speak to someone about a guitar before I buy?

Yes, and we encourage it. Our team are working musicians, not order-takers. Call us at 605-348-6737 and ask about any instrument in our inventory. We will physically pull it off the wall and describe it to you in detail.

What is your return policy?

We offer a 14-day return policy if you change your mind and the item is returned undamaged. You are responsible for return shipping costs.
