Gibson's Super Jumbo story reaches back to the pre-war era, but the model had developed a particularly recognizable identity by the 1950s, appearing in the hands of prominent country, western, and popular performers while becoming a symbol of Gibson acoustic craftsmanship. The Gibson Custom Shop 1957 SJ-200 looks directly to that celebrated period, recreating the character of a late-'50s example through historically inspired materials, construction, and appointments.

A Super Jumbo body gives this guitar the physical foundation for the large, confident voice that has long distinguished the SJ-200. Its thermally aged Sitka spruce top is designed to offer an open, responsive character, while hand-selected flame maple back and sides contribute clarity, definition, and projection. Traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing assembled with hide glue further connects the instrument to vintage Gibson building methods. The result is a broad and powerful acoustic voice with firm lows, articulate mids, clear highs, and enough headroom to stay composed when driven by a strong picking hand.
