A quiet signal chain gives every note more room to speak, and this used Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor is designed to remove unwanted hum, buzz, and high-gain noise without sacrificing the natural dynamics and decay of a guitar or bass. A longtime pedalboard utility, the NS-2 uses an analog VCA and high-speed envelope-detection circuitry to distinguish the instrument signal from unwanted noise, producing smoother suppression than a simple hard gate. Its dedicated send/return loop is particularly useful for isolating noisy overdrives, distortions, and other gain pedals while continuously monitoring the clean instrument input.

Threshold and Decay controls make it easy to tailor the suppression to different instruments and gain levels, while selectable Reduction and Mute modes give the pedal additional stage utility. Reduction mode lets the footswitch engage or disengage suppression, while Mute mode provides a convenient way to silence the rig for tuning, instrument changes, or breaks between songs. Buffered bypass helps maintain signal integrity through larger pedalboards, and the NS-2 can also distribute 9V power to additional pedals when used with the appropriate optional Boss power adapter and parallel cable.
