First introduced in 1942, the Gibson J-45 Special carries the legacy of the legendary “Workhorse” into a more accessible, USA-built package, handcrafted by Gibson’s acoustic luthiers in Bozeman, Montana. Its round-shoulder body pairs a solid Sitka spruce top with solid mahogany back and sides and traditional scalloped X-bracing, delivering the warm, balanced tone and wide dynamic range the J-45 is famous for. The slightly thinner concert-depth body offers a tighter, more controlled bass that sits effortlessly in the mix while also making the guitar more comfortable to hold for long sessions.

A fast-playing SlimTaper neck with a rosewood fretboard and simple mother-of-pearl dot inlays gives the J-45 Special a familiar, broken-in feel, while quality appointments like Grover Rotomatic tuners, a Tusq nut and saddle, and a satin nitrocellulose finish complete its understated elegance. Equipped with an L.R. Baggs Element Bronze under-saddle pickup and soundhole-mounted volume control, this guitar is stage- and studio-ready right out of the included premium soft shell case, and is available at Haggerty’s Music.
