When you want vintage character, rare styling, and unmistakable '60s Fender mojo, this 1968 Fender Coronado Bass II delivers on every front. Finished in the eye-catching Wildwood color pattern and built during the CBS era at the original Fullerton, California plant, this hollow body bass showcases both the creativity and craftsmanship of Fender's late-60s output. Once passing hands through Marguerite's Music Inc. — a Moorhead, North Dakota institution that operated for over five decades before closing their doors in 2015 — this bass has a storied 57-year history.
It features its original DeArmond-designed pickups and a unique beechwood laminate body with a nitrocellulose finish that has aged beautifully over the years. With its 30" short-scale maple neck and rosewood fingerboard, this bass offers a comfortable playing experience ideal for melodic lines and rhythmic grooves alike. Its electronics, built by Rowe Industries, include the original harness and pickups for warm, articulate vintage tone. Notably, this instrument has undergone professional restoration to preserve and enhance playability, including a neck reset and re-binding, and a replacement tone knob to match the era-correct aesthetic. Fender open-gear tuning machines — partially repaired but original — keep the instrument’s historical integrity intact. Now available at Haggerty’s Music, this Coronado Bass II is an excellent opportunity to own a piece of Fender’s iconic experimental era.
