When you're searching for a truly unique vintage keyboard sound that blends nostalgia with quirky character, the Multivox MX-20 is the kind of instrument that sparks creativity. This electric combo piano from the 1970s captures the charm and oddball sonic textures of the era with a built-in speaker, analog voicing, and a bold aesthetic that stands out as much visually as it does sonically. Manufactured in Japan and distributed by Multivox Corporation of America, the MX-20 was designed as a stage-friendly alternative to larger combo organs and electromechanical pianos.
Featuring a 49-key layout, the MX-20 offers preset voice switches for Piano, Honky Tonk, and Clavichord tones—each with dedicated low and high registers. Additional onboard controls include Bass Volume, Sustain, Vibrato, and Tuning, giving players a modest yet effective set of tools to shape their sound. With line-level outputs for both normal and bass signals and a jack for a damper pedal, this keyboard is surprisingly versatile for both live and studio applications.
This unit is in very good condition, showing typical signs of age-related wear such as yellowed keys and minor scuffs to the tolex. Functionally, it’s in great working order and includes a power cable. Whether you're chasing lo-fi vintage textures or adding an oddball flavor to your studio setup, this Multivox MX-20 is ready to inspire—and it's available now at Haggerty’s Music in Rapid City, SD.
