The Martin J-40 is a trusted standout in Martin’s acoustic lineup, making an unforgettable statement in both sound and style. Its Jumbo body size, featuring a J-14 Fret design with a larger, tight-waisted shape, delivers powerful projection, resonant bass, shimmering trebles, and exceptional tonal balance suited for any playing style. Handcrafted with a solid Sitka spruce top and solid East Indian rosewood back and sides, the J-40 produces deep bass, rich overtones, and a dynamic response. Forward-shifted X-bracing with GE-scalloped spruce braces, inspired by the Modern Deluxe Series, enhances vintage-inspired tone and sustain. The satin genuine mahogany neck, with its Golden Era (GE) Modified Low Oval profile, high-performance taper, and 25.4" scale length, ensures smooth and comfortable playability. Luxurious appointments—including an abalone rosette with multi-stripe inlay, bound ebony fingerboard with reduced hexagon abalone inlays, and antique white binding with multi-stripe accents—enhance its timeless beauty. Additional features such as the GE Modern Belly ebony bridge with bone pins, compensated bone saddle, and gold open-gear Butterbean tuners further highlight the guitar’s craftsmanship.
